THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY
”A TRILLION DOLAR INDUSTRY”
Ecotech’s Circular Economy Model
“Estimates suggest that the global population will reach close to 9 billion by 2030 – including 3 billion new middle-class consumers. This places unprecedented pressure on natural resources to meet future consumer demand. The circular economy is a redesign of this future, where industrial systems are restorative and regenerative by intention. Nothing that is made in a circular economy becomes waste, moving away from our current linear ‘take-make-dispose’ economy. The circular economy’s potential for innovation, job creation and economic development is huge: estimates indicate a trillion-dollar opportunity. “ World Economic Forum
The Circular Economy is a model that incorporates the principles of recycling, reclamation, refurbishment and remanufacturing to maximise the use of materials already extracted from the ground and doing so through a healthy, closed-loop system that has a positive impact on people, planet and profits.
Ecotech developing a full curcular economy model
In collaboration with Deakin University’s Institute of Frontier Materials, Ecotech’s R&D program have developed construction products (bricks and mortar) from the benign leftover silica left after base and precious metals have been removed. from the Broula King tailings. It is intended that through further government grant research funding, further studies will be conducted to assess the longer-term durability of cementitious products that contain the Broula King tailings, whether as fine aggregate replacement or as a partial cement replacement.
